Intro Call vs. Paid Session

Updated over 3 months ago

On Yumi42 many coaches offer two different types of appointments:

  • a short, free intro call (usually 15 minutes)

  • regular paid coaching sessions (for example 60 minutes)

They serve different purposes. This article explains what you can expect from each and when to choose which.

What the intro call is for

The intro call is a brief, free conversation to check:

  • Fit and chemistry: Do you feel comfortable with this coach?

  • Your situation: Which topics do you need support with?

  • Your goals: What would you like to change or achieve?

  • The process: How could coaching look in your case (frequency, format, focus)?

  • Practicalities: Price level, language, online tools, scheduling.

Important:

  • The intro call is not a full coaching session.

  • You should not expect deep work on your topic or a complete solution in this call.

  • There is no obligation to book paid sessions afterwards.

Typical structure of an intro call

While each coach is different, many calls follow this pattern:

  1. Short welcome and introduction by the coach.

  2. You briefly describe your situation and what you are looking for.

  3. The coach asks a few questions to understand your topic.

  4. The coach explains how they would work with you and what is realistic.

  5. You clarify open questions (format, language, expectations, next steps).

If both sides feel it is a good fit, you can then book a paid session or program via Yumi42.

What paid sessions are for

Paid sessions are where the actual coaching takes place. In a paid session you can expect:

  • more time (for example 45, 60 or 90 minutes)

  • structured work on your topic and concrete next steps

  • deeper questions, exercises or reflection tools

  • follow-up from previous sessions if you are working together over time

You pay per booked offer (single session or program/package). Details on prices and payment are explained in separate Help Center articles.

When to choose which

Use an intro call if:

  • you are unsure which coach to choose

  • you want to check chemistry and style first

  • you are not sure whether your topic fits this coach

Book a paid session directly if:

  • you already know the coach (for example from a previous intro call or recommendation)

  • you are sure that the focus and price fit your needs

  • you want to start working on your topic right away

You can always start with an intro call and then decide calmly whether and how you want to continue.

If a coach does not offer an intro call

Not all coaches offer free intro calls. In that case you can:

  • read the profile particularly carefullys

  • book a single paid session as a test and then decide whether to continue

Other Help Center articles explain in more detail how booking, rescheduling and cancellations work for both intro calls and paid sessions.
