How to find the right coach

Updated over 3 months ago

Finding the right coach is less about “perfect” and more about “good fit for your situation right now”. On Yumi42 you can combine filters, profiles and a short intro call to make a clear decision.

1. Start with your goal

Before you search, ask yourself:

  • What do I want to change or improve right now?

  • Is it more about career, leadership, health, relationships or personal growth?

  • Do I want a sparring partner who challenges me or someone who supports and stabilises me?

You do not need perfect answers, but a rough direction makes the search much easier.

2. Use filters in the coach overview

In the coach overview you can narrow down the list by:

  • topic and focus areas

  • language

  • format (online, in person where available)

  • price range

  • type of offer (single sessions, programs, group formats)

Start broad, then narrow down. For example first choose “career”, then filter by language and price.

3. Read coach profiles with a clear checklist

When you open a profile, focus on:

  • Focus areas
Do the described topics match what you want to work on?

  • Experience and background
Does the coach have experience with people in a similar situation to you

  • Working style
How does the coach describe their way of working, more structured or more exploratory, more direct or more gentle?

  • Offers and prices
Are there formats that fit your budget and schedule, for example single sessions or packages?

  • Language and format
Is the language of the sessions clear and passt das Format (online etc.) zu deinem Alltag?

Trust your first impression. If the profile feels confusing or off, move on.

4. Use the free intro call strategically

Many coaches offer a free 15 minute intro call. Use it to check:

  • Is the chemistry good, do you feel safe enough to be honest?

  • Does the coach listen and ask useful questions instead of giving fast advice?

  • Wird klar, wie ein möglicher Coaching Prozess aussehen könnte?

  • Werden Grenzen klar benannt, also was Coaching leisten kann und was nicht?

Prepare 2–3 short points you want to mention so the coach gets a good picture quickly.

5. Decide and commit for a test phase

After 1 intro call or 1–2 sessions:

  • If it feels like a good fit, commit to a short test phase, for example 3 sessions.

  • If it feels clearly wrong, be honest, say you do not want to continue and look for someone else.

It is normal to try more than one coach before you find the right fit. On Yumi42 you can always go back to the overview and adjust your filters and preferences.

If you are unsure whether your topic is suitable for coaching at all, see the Help Center article about which topics Yumi42 is and is not suitable for.
